I understand that the BitNami business model offers up some stacks as open-source for anyone to use for free, while a profit is made using that stack technology in other ways. Just a suggestion: Even though you don’t sell these open-source stacks, it still could be useful to have a little PayPal “donate” button somewhere. For those who don’t use BitNami’s commercial products/services, having a channel where they can say “thank you” could be useful. :-) Like the link here: http://jets3t.s3.amazonaws.com/index.html

I suppose two links could be clearest: one to support the original open-source software(Drupal or LifeRay, say), and one to support the BitNami efforts to make said software easy to install and remove. In this way, it’s clear you’re encouraging support of the original open-source work, as well as allowing us to support your own efforts in packaging that open-source work.

Hi Kirk, we have been hesitant to do so, but you are not the first one that suggests it. We specially like the idea of having two links. If over time the contributions are not much, we can always consider it ‘pizza money’ and if it is significant, help fund further development.

On the other hand, we want to open development of BitNami, so we really want to avoid the perception that sometimes asking for donations may actually shy away people who could contribute in other ways such as code or docs. I guess we can always give it a try and take it down if it does not work. At this moment if people want to contribute, the best way is to let us know what they would like to see in BitNami and subscribing t the RSS of the forums, responding to questions they know the answer to.

Thanks again for your suggestion and taking the time to post it.
