Amazon EBS instance

Launching a BitNami Amazon EC2 instance is great. I am using the Wordpress one right now. However, because this instance does not reside on EBS storage, I am not able to shutdown the machine and leave it dormant until I actually need the instance. My only options are to reboot or terminate the instance. Terminating the instance will definitely shutdown the instance, but it is also not recoverable because the AMI actually gets destroyed.

I am interested in the BitNami Wordpress instance being EBS based so that the instance doesn’t disappear into the ether when I shut it down. I’ve found some articles that talk about converting a VMware vmdk file to AMI format, but the documentation is relatively old. With Amazon AWS, documentation older than a couple of months may no longer apply.

Thanks,
Brian

Hi Brian,

We have EBS instances working as part of BitNami Hosting, we will drop you an email to tell you about it. An alternative for now may be to start a Linux AMI and download and install a stack directly. We recommend the official Ubuntu EC2 images.

Best regards

Daniel,

Thank you for the information. One of the tricky things is how to find an official instance. When I search in the Community AMIs tab with the EBS images filter set and search criteria of “Ubuntu”, I see plenty of Ubuntu instances, but the manifest information doesn’t indicate which instances are official.

Hi Brian,

You can find the list of AMI ids on this page http://uec-images.ubuntu.com/releases/10.04/rel… .
