Getting MySQL started

I’ve moved this from the ‘Lampstack’ forum:

Hi,

I’m using the Bitnami.org Lampstack [rev 1] on Rightscale to launch a MySQL database on Amazon AWS.

I’ve launched the Lampstack without any problem but can’t seem to get the MySQL DB up and running. I can’t use Localhost to poke around since the server is located on Amazon. When I SSH in to the server, it appears that MySQL is not running but I can’t seem to figure out how to get it started. I was under the impression that it would start at boot time.

Thanks for any help. I’ve spent hours banging my head against the wall and the documentation seems very sparse. I’m not sure whether something is different because I’m using Rightscale or Amazon AWS.
