OPENID/Proxy settings in Liferay

Hi, I am having trouble getting OpenID authentication for Liferay working behind a proxy server. I have tried various combinations of settings including:

http.proxyHost=XXX
https.proxyHost=XXX
https.proxyPort=8088
http.proxyPort=8088
http.nonProxyHosts=”localhost”

in {LR}/apache-tomcat/webapps/liferay/WEB-INF/classes/system-ext.properties

and setting JAVA_OPTS appropriately too.

This has been tried from both a Ubuntu and SuSE machines, yet the same thing:
An error occurred while discovering the OpenID provider.

It’s clear that it isn’t able to connect to my OpenId provider as it is not reporting that it is has found the server in the browser status bar, and just reports connecting to localhost…

I’d be grateful for any help with this one.
