I am running BitNami Joomla joomla-1.5.3-0 on a Mac OS X 10.5.6 server to host one web site. I have just noticed that the GD libraries don’t support jpg, for gallery uploading. I need to fix the problem, which I think requires an upgrade of Joomla.

How do I upgrade my joomla-1.5.3-0 install to the latest version without affecting my current joomla web site?
