Topic: Stacks suggestions / New stacks I'd like to see I’m doing a lot of work with “open data” and “data journalism”. There are quite a few server tools out there that would make great stacks, or could be combined into one stack: 1. Ushahidi I’m building openSUSE based appliances for data journalism, but they’re desktops, not servers. I’ve thought about putting the server components in, but the appliances I make now are pretty big as is, and a server-only stack would be much smaller. And I onlt have tools for making openSUSE appliances, not Ubuntu appliances or installers for MacOS X or Windows. Bitnami would be a logical place for these to get made. |

Topic: Moodle / How closely do you track the upstream Moodle source? I’m a Moodle user. Right now, my Moodle sites are hosted on a “standard” hosting service, but I’m thinking about migrating to a “cloud-based” platform and using something like RightScale and BitNami’s Moodle stack. One of the issues I have with the standard hosting is that Moodle publishes frequent updates, and some of these are must-have security updates. The hosting service doesn’t always track these, and I have to manually jump through a lot of hoops to upgrade once they do pick up the updates. So … when Moodle (or any other of your platforms, for that matter) releases an update, especially a security update, how long does it take for BitNami to rebuild the stack? Is there a “registration/notification” service a stack user could subscribe to? |

Topic: Stacks suggestions / I'd like JRubyStack with PostgreSQL instead of MySQL I posted this in the RubyStack / JRubyStack forum, but I’ll repeat it here. I would like a RubyStack / JRubyStack with PostgreSQL as the database instead of MySQL. |

Topic: Stacks suggestions / Phusion Passengerâ„¢ for windows ??? I would further add that if one wants to run a “Rails stack” on Windows, the current JRubyStack is probably the best bet for efficiency. That is certainly the path I am taking in my Windows / Rails development, at least until the Rails / Merb merger is done and Ruby 1.9.1 is fully integrated with it. |

Topic: RubyStack & JRubyStack / How difficult is it to replace MySQL with PostgreSQL in RubyStack and jRubyStack? I’m interested in using RubyStack or jRubyStack (most likely jRubyStack), but I want to use PostgreSQL instead of MySQL. So: 1. Would BitNami have such a stack on their roadmap already? If not, who else would want it? |
