JRubyStack

Categories: Infrastructure
Technologies: GlassFish Java JDBC MySQL Ruby on Rails Subversion Tomcat
Licenses: Apache

BitNami JRubyStack greatly simplifies the development and deployment of JRuby on Rails applications. It includes ready-to-run versions of Tomcat, MySQL, JRuby and Rails and required dependencies. It can be deployed using a native installer, as a virtual machine or in the cloud. BitNami JRubyStack is distributed for free under the Apache 2.0 license.

With JRubyStack you can:

  • Develop your JRuby on Rails application using Java from Ruby.
  • Launch your application with the GlassFish server thanks to the GlassFish gem.
  • Make a .war file out of your application in 3 simple steps (see Quick Start Guide for details).
  • Deploy it to the bundled Tomcat.
  • Commit and Checkout your code with the subversion client.

JRuby is a 100% Java implementation of the Ruby programming language. It is Ruby for the JVM. JRuby provides a complete set of core “builtin” classes and syntax for the Ruby language, as well as most of the Ruby Standard Libraries. Rails is a full-stack MVC framework for database-backed web applications that is optimized for programmer happiness and sustainable productivity.

The BitNami JRubyStack native installers were packaged using BitRock's cross platform installer tool.

Native Installers

BitNami native installers automate the setup of a BitNami application stack on Windows, Linux or Mac OS X. Each installer includes all of the software necessary to run out of the box (the stack). The process is simple; just download, click next-next-next and you are done! BitNami stacks are completely self contained and will not interfere with other software on your system. Virtual Machines

BitNami virtual machine images contain a minimal Linux operating system and a fully configured BitNami application stack. Running virtual machine images requires a hypervisor such as VMWare or VirtualBox, so it is recommended for system administrators and advanced users. Learn more about BitNami Virtual Machines

Cloud Computing

BitNami Cloud images extend stack appliances to run in a cloud computing environment. You can run BitNami applications on a pay-as-you-go basis, programmatically starting and stopping them. BitNami cloud images are currently available for Amazon EC2 and GoGrid, with planned support for additional cloud environments. Learn more about BitNami Cloud Images.

You can find additional documentation at the Bitnami Virtual Machine FAQ.

Amazon Machine Images

To deploy a BitNami Stack on Amazon EC2, copy the appropriate AMI name from the table below (based on whether you want to deploy on servers (in the US or Europe) and visit the BitNami AMI Guide for a tutorial on how to get started.
